"Is Mojo Launcher safe?" is a fair question. It is a free app that you install from outside the Play Store if you take the APK route, and the name is copied by dozens of look-alike sites. This guide gives you a clear verdict on the real project, then shows you how to check any file yourself and what to do if you already installed something questionable.
Why the real project is reasonably transparent
- The code is public. Anyone can read it on the Mojo Launcher GitHub repository, and its license is the GNU LGPL v3.
- Development is visible. Commits, issues and releases are all in the open, and builds are produced by GitHub Actions.
- Third-party parts are listed. The README names every component, from OpenJDK to Mesa, with licenses.
- A published privacy policy. The project's Google Play policy says the app does not send sensitive data over the network and that crash reports are not shared with the developer or any third party. Network use is limited to downloading game resources, mods and other content you ask for.
None of this makes any software risk-free, but it means you can inspect it, and independent people do.
The real danger: copies
Because the app is open source, anyone can repackage it. Searching for Mojo Launcher APK returns a mixture of genuine links and sites that add ads, trackers or worse. Common tricks:
- "Mod APK", "premium", "unlocked", "pro". The launcher is free and has no premium tier.
- Files that are far too small or too large. The real stable APK is roughly 82 MB.
- Download buttons that lead to surveys or ask you to install another app first.
- A different package name. The real one is
git.artdeell.mjlaunch. - Fake platforms. iPhone or Windows versions do not exist, see Mojo Launcher for iOS and Mojo Launcher for PC.
A 60-second verification routine
- Start from an official link. This site's homepage, the GitHub releases or the Play listing.
- Check the file name
MojoLauncher-release.apkand its size against the release page. - After installing, check the package name in Android's app info.
- Review permissions. Be suspicious of anything unrelated to a game launcher, like SMS or contacts.
- Scan if you like. A reputable security scanner can inspect a file before you install it.
For the file itself, our Mojo Launcher APK guide includes screenshots-level instructions.
Is it safe for my Minecraft account?
You sign in with your Microsoft account, so treat the app like any sign-in screen:
- Install only the official app, and never enter your password on a website that claims to give you a launcher.
- Enable two-step verification on your Microsoft account.
- If you used an unofficial copy and signed in, change your password right away and review account security.
Is it safe for my phone?
The launcher runs a game that is demanding. It can make the device hot and drain the battery. That is a hardware matter, not a security problem, and our lag guide has cooling tips. Mods are another matter: a mod .jar can do anything Java code can do inside the game, so only install mods from reputable sites. See how to install mods.
What about GitHub vs Google Play?
Both are official and share one package name. We compare them in GitHub vs Play Store. Nightly builds are less tested, so skip them unless you want to help test.
Is it legal?
The launcher is a legitimate open-source project that requires you to own the game. It does not include Minecraft, and it is not affiliated with Mojang or Microsoft; see our disclaimer. Using it to access a copy you did not buy is not something the project supports.
If you already installed something suspicious
- Uninstall it.
- Change your Microsoft password.
- Run a security scan.
- Install the official version from the official homepage.
